FAQ

1. Which pipe sizes and lengths can be rehabilitated with the TROLINING System?

TROLINING manufactures continuous HDPE liners (with smooth or studded surfaces) for circular pipe cross-sections ranging from 250 to 2000 mm (10 to 80 inches) in diameter. The same liners can be used for the rehabilitation of other pipe shapes with equivalent circumferential dimensions.

Depending on the pipe size and the specific site conditions, liners with a length of up to 200m can be manufactured and inserted. Pipe sizes larger than 2000 mm (or 80 inches) diameter are lined with HDPE sheets or segments. Once the HDPE materials have been installed, the annular space is filled with high-strength cementitious grout to form the unique TROLINING composite structure.

2. What is the necessary wall thickness; how great is the reduction of cross-sectional area?

The required wall thickness of the TROLINING System depends mainly on the required structural capability. On receiving the relevant parameters, TROLINING prepares a design calculation for every individual project. Variations in wall thickness are allowed for by using HDPE sheets with different anchor stud sizes. A range of sheet types is available to meet exactly the specified project requirements.

3. Is there an impact on the hydraulic capacity?

The extremely smooth surface of PE (polyethylene) improves the hydraulic capacity of pipes rehabilitated with the TROLINING System in almost all cases, despite the slight reduction in diameter.

4. What about the chemical resistance?

Due to its excellent chemical resistance, HDPE is the preferred material for tanks and pipe networks in chemical plants. A broad PH-value range is covered. The resistance against specific chemicals depends on their concentration and temperature.

5. How can lateral pipes be connected?

TROLINING offers different trenchless state-of-art solutions to connect lateral pipes to its liner system. Inverted HDPE saddles are used both for man-entry and non-entry pipes. With non-entry pipes ranging from 250 to 600 mm (10 to 24 inches) diameter, a special robot unit positions the saddles and joins them with the inner HDPE liner by electro-fusion welding. Regarding man-entry pipes, the saddles are installed manually; alternatively, PE pipe sections with external gaskets can be inserted.

6. Which information must I supply in order to receive a quotation?

A break-down of the required information can be downloaded here

7. Can the TROLINING System be used for drinking-water applications?

Yes. HDPE is recommended for such applications. Positive test reports are available from the Austrian OFI-Institute, Vienna and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Oslo.

8. Which are the available QA-certificates and approvals?

· DIBt (German Institute for Construction Technology)
· Certificate in accordance with §19
· Certificate RAL S35.01 (Compliance with safety and quality regulations)
· DIN EN ISO 9001 for the suppliers of HDPE sheets and grout
· Test report in accordance with the "Hamburger Modell" (abrasion resistance test)
· WRc approval

9. Which are the relevant standards for the TROLINING System and the employed materials?

· DWA-M 143-10 (Sewer rehabilitation with studded liners)
· ATV M127, Part 2 (Structural design)
· DIN EN 1610 (Tightness test)
· DIN EN 295 (Abrasion resistance)
· DIN EN 196 (Grout properties)
· DVS 2225 (Liner manufacture by hot wedge welding method)
· ISO 1133 (Physical properties of HDPE)
· ISO 527 (Mechanical properties of HDPE)
· DVGW W 270 (Suitability for drinking water application)

10. How can a company become a TROLINING partner?

Trolining’s worldwide network of selected local specialists helps customers solve environmental protection problems across the globe. As a partner, you ideally already have experience of underground construction or trenchless rehabilitation technologies. Companies that carry out pipe cleaning and/or CCTV inspections, and are seeking a rehabilitation product to expand their service portfolio, are also welcome candidates.

If a company meets the initial criteria, TROLINING will provide relevant documentation on technical and commercial matters. Following a review of the documents and a meeting or perhaps a job-site visit by TROLINING, the candidate is free to decide whether the TROLINING System meets his needs.

A partnership always rests on a contractual basis. An authorisation contract regulates the rights and obligations of both parties. The partner's technical staff is then trained on TROLINING job-sites in Germany in the independent installation of the lining system. It goes without saying that TROLINING will provide personnel to support the first project implementations in the partner’s country.
